CRESCENT CITY, Calif. – Redwood Parks Conservancy, in partnership with the Yurok Tribe, invites the public to a special free screening of Giants Rising, an inspiring new documentary about the redwoods, ahead of its national premiere on PBS on November 1, 2025.
The screening will take place Friday, October 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Yurok Tribe Headquarters (190 Klamath Blvd, Klamath, CA 95548). Admission is free, with RSVPs requested but not required.
The evening will feature guest speakers from the Yurok Tribe and Redwood National & State Parks, who will share their perspectives before the film, and a special appearance by Lisa Landers, Producer and Director of Giants Rising. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
The exquisitely immersive 82-minute film explores the world of the coast redwoods—Earth’s tallest trees—and the people working to understand and protect them. Giants Rising takes viewers on a journey through the science, culture, and resilience of these ancient forests, weaving together the voices of biologists, Indigenous knowledge keepers, artists, and conservationists.
Featured in the film are:
● Leonel Arguello, Deputy Superintendent, Redwood National and State Parks
● Rosie Clayburn, Yurok Tribal Heritage Preservation Officer
● Barry McCovey Jr., Director, Yurok Tribal Fisheries Department
● Dave Severns, Yurok Canoe Carver
● Margo Robbins, Executive Director, Cultural Fire Council
Narrated by Michael Franti, Giants Rising delves into how redwoods withstand fire, capture carbon, and offer insights into resilience and healing—while confronting the legacy of logging that nearly wiped them out. The film reveals lessons about connection, stewardship, and the shared responsibility to help these iconic forests thrive into the future.
