Cultural Resources Department

The Yurok Tribe’s Cultural Resources Department is committed to the protection, preservation, and stewardship of ‘Oohl (Yurok People) cultural resources in alignment with Tribal law and federal mandates such as the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). We carefully manage our archives, collections, and repatriation efforts, as well as oversight of reports, permits, clearance surveys, and damage assessments. Through culturally grounded education, interpretation, and outreach, we foster deeper understanding and respect for ‘Oohl cultural traditions among both Tribal members and the general public. We ensure that ‘Oohl cultural resources are honored and preserved for future generations.
