Notice of Public Hearing

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT the Yurok Tribe will hold three public hearings to accept comments from Yurok Tribal members on the following draft legislation:


  • LEAD AMMUNITION PROHIBITION ORDINANCE: A new ordinance prohibiting use of lead ammunition in Yurok territory except in emergencies.

  • HEMP ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS: Updates to the hemp ordinance to conform with changes to the U.S. Department of Agriculture regulations.

  • EXCLUSION ORDINANCE: A new ordinance providing procedures for excluding people from Yurok territory.

  • CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS: Amendments to the existing controlled substances ordinance to allow for the personal cultivation of medical marijuana limited to 6 plants per adult and 12 plants total per parcel of land.

  • ELECTION ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS: Amendments to the existing ordinance to provide for mail ballots with drop boxes.


The Yurok Tribal Council has referred the above draft legislation to public hearing in accordance with the Yurok Tribal Public Hearing Ordinance. Public hearings are scheduled for:

REQUEST FOR COMMENTS

The Yurok Tribe is interested in receiving comments from members of the Yurok Tribe and Yurok Reservation community regarding all aspects of the legislation. Oral comments can be made during the public hearing. Comments may also be submitted in writing. All comments must be received by 5:00pm on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Please indicate in your comment the draft legislation and specific section, if any, to which the comment is directed. For example, “Comment Letter—Hemp Ordinance.
