Underground Storage Tank Program

Underground storage tanks, also known as USTs, are typically associated with fuel storage at your local gas station. Historically these USTs have been a source of petroleum contamination in both the soil and ground water adjacent to the tanks. PPD has inventoried and assessed all known USTs on the Yurok Reservation subject to EPA regulatory requirements. Some older and failing USTs have been removed with funding from USEPA (in Weitchpec at Old Brizzards Store in 2010).

PPD staff have recieved UST Inspector training and are qualified to provide compliance assistance to tribal businesses that may have UST compliance and reporting requirements to USEPA. PPD staff currently provide compliance assistance to Pey-Mey and the Yurok Fish Processing Plant and will expand those efforts to the Yurok Hotel and Casino, once completed. For more information on this program please contact Ray Martell or Emery Mattz.
