  • California Condors used to range from British Columbia to Northern Baja California.
  • Condors nest in hollowed out portions at the top of redwoods and in small caves on cliff faces.
  • Condors eat an average of two to three pounds of carrion per feeding.
  • While condors eat only dead and decaying animals that take great care in cleaning themselves after every feeding.
  • An adult condor’s wingspan nearly reaches 12 feet and can fly up to 15,000 feet above sea level.
  • Condors can live up to 60 years in the wild.
  • Condors don’t breed until six years of age and only lay one egg every two years after reaching sexual maturity.
  • Condors are social birds, while they can fly hundreds of miles in day, they prefer to feed and roost together.
  • Condors mate for life.
  • It was once falsely believed that condors could fly away with small children.
