Solid Waste Management

The Pollution Prevention Division (PPD) is the primary tribal entity responsible for ensuring that refuse on the Yurok Reservation is properly handled and disposed of. The division does this by creating and implementing a tribal integrated solid waste management plan that emphasizes recycling and proper disposal of solid and hazardous waste.

BURNING TRASH IS NOT A PROPER OR LEGAL MEANS OF DISPOSAL

PPD staff conduct targeted illegal dump cleanups with annual funding provided by USEPA, conduct community recycling and cleanup events throughout the year and promote enforcement of the Tribe's illegal dumping and abandoned vehicle ordinances. PPD staff provide technical assistance to tribal programs, departments and enterprises to reduce waste, increase and improve recycling and save money in the form of reduced costs for disposal.
