What is Sexual Assault & Abuse?

  • What is Sexual Assault? - Any type of unwanted sexual activity. Forcing or pressuring someone to do something they don’t want or consent to is sexual assault. Taking advantage of someone sexually when they are asleep, intoxicated or under the influence of a drug is sexual assault.

  • Sexual assault and abuse also includes: - Inappropriate touching. Vaginal, anal, or oral penetration. Sexual intercourse when you say no (even if it is husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend…or someone you have had intercourse with in the past).

  • Sexual assault can also be: -
    Verbal: Unwanted sexual advances.
    Visual: Forcing someone to engage unwanted sexual contact or attention is sexual assault.
