KLAMATH RIVER DAM REMOVALINFORMATION CLEARINGHOUSE
This webpage is a resource where you can find and download studies relevant to dam removal on the Klamath River. Most of these studies are from outside sources and are provided here for infomational purposes. To view a study, click on the title, you can then use "Save As.." to save the file. Alternatively (Windows), you can right click, select "Save Target As.." and save the file directly to your own computer.
This page is still under construction, and more studies are being added, so check back frequently.
If you have a study that would be appropriate for this page, or if there are any broken links, etc. please contact Michael Belchik, Senior Fisheries Biologist, Yurok Tribal Fisheries Program (530)625-4130 x1617.
The studies are organized by informational categories, and some studies may be found in more than one category:
Engineering (including cost of removal)
Economics
Water Quality (including Toxic Algae Studies)
Characterizes sediment behind four dams of the Klamath River Hydroelectric Project on the Klamath River, and examines the possibility of dam removal.
- Iron Gate Trapping Memo Final (51 KB)
A first-order estimate of fine sediment trapping potential within Iron Gate Reservoir for upstream drawdown and dam removal.
- Drawdown Timing Technical Memo (73 KB)
Biological rationale for a proposed reservoir drawdown period for Klamath River dams.
Analysis of alternative reservoir drawdown periods during dam decommissioning.
Analysis of the stability of the above mentioned dams under different drawdown scenarios.
Conceptual plan for anadromous fish reintroduction above Iron Gate Dam. Includes information on fisheries habitat in the Hydroelectric Project area and above Upper Klamath Lake.
Peer-reviewed publication regarding historic occurrence of anadromous fish within and above the current Hydroelectric Project Area.
Analysis of nutrient dynamics with implications for understanding dam removal
